Truly He is Risen

Christ is Risen!

That is our mantra these bright days, and I’m enjoying all the sunshine, the glimpses of sweet spring all around, the birds, the asparagus pushing their way out of the soil, the blooms on the blackberry bushes.

Now that Holy Week and Pascha have passed. Now that I’m chipping away at my to-do list, I’ll be back with you in this space, hopefully sharing some wonderful secrets–both baking and otherwise.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you as to your favorite baking recipes that involve  Easter. There are so many traditions, so many sweet breads and egg breads, and cheese breads that folks around the world love to make. Please share!

(And please pray for my camera, which has gone kaput. The photo above was taken with a friends’ on Holy Saturday… )

Sending you love.

  2. My favorite Bright Week recipes are: Cadbury Creme Eggs, Solid Hershey’s Chocolate Bunnies, Cadbury Creme Eggs, Russell Stover Marshmallow Chocolate Eggs, Cadbury Creme Eggs, Easter Colored M&Ms, and Cadbury Creme Eggs (these are all gluten-free, of course). Hee. Hee. Hee. Happy Pascha Meyer fam!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Kulich with golden raisins is my favorite. A few years ago I started making cheese. A simple lemon cheese (1 gallon of milk and juice squeezed from about 3 lemons added after you heat it up to 180′ F) is my favorite to make, then we add 1 cup and a half of sugar, 1/2 cup of butter, 2 beaten eggs and simmer, then let cool and pour into a bowl lined with cheesecloth! I spread the cheese atop a slice of kulich. ♥

  4. Jane, I have never made hot cross buns, but I hope to try the recipe on There is a very detailed video and background info in addition to the recipe. I would take Stepanie’s suggestion and just use raisins and eliminate the other mixed fruit. I have tried many of Stephanie’s recipes and they are tested many times for accuracy. Perhaps next Easter I will put these on my to do list!

    • Next time I’ll get your smile. Wasn’t Holy Saturday amazing? And Pascha, of course, but I was nearly asleep the whole service, which was crazy! Christ is Risen, Obadiah.

      • Don’t feel bad, I tend to dose a bit during Fr. Nicholas’s homilies, I usually wake up about 4:30 AM every morning.
